The 2019 Home Decor Trends You’ll Actually Love

The holidays are nearly over, you’ve survived each and every social affair, and you’re ready to begin looking forward to 2019. If you’re like us, though, you aren’t necessarily planning a new diet as your New Year’s resolution. Instead, you’re ready to revamp your home decor!

One of our favorite things about the beginning of a new year is a fresh look at current and upcoming interior design trends. This year, while some things will remain the same (bold colors, anyone?), most trends on the horizon are revivals of classic styles that have been given a modern twist.

Here are our favorites:

Trend #1: Handmade Pieces

There’s no denying the charm and uniqueness that comes along with anything handmade. Just think about it: a skilled artisan with an incredible talent spent hours creating something truly one-of-a-kind with their own hands. That’s really amazing when you stop and think about it.

In 2019, handmade pieces will be highly sought-after, including hand-carved furniture. These types of furnishings help to create a warmer, more inviting atmosphere. They also bring texture, detail, and distinctiveness in the rooms they occupy.

Trend #3: Curved Finishings

Furniture with all the right curves in all the right places will be highly desired in 2019. Many professional interior designers are moving away from the clean, sharp lines that defined many styles throughout the last few years. Now, pieces with personality and unique frames are the way to go. Additionally, furniture with curved lines are perfect for large spaces that need to be “sectioned off,” such as an open layout featuring a kitchen seamlessly transitioning into a common living area. These pieces can be used to create a separation between the two areas since their backsides are typically meant to be seen.

Trend #4: Bold Colors

This is a 2018 trend that will still be alive in well in the new year. As they were last year, bright and bold tones are the colors designers will be aiming for. Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year is Living Coral, a vibrant hue described as a shade of orange with a golden undertone. Additionally, shades of jade, fuchsia, and crimson will remain solidly on-trend and will be found in everything from rugs to painted ceilings.

Trend #5: Bold Statement Beds

If you know us at all, you know we adore big statement pieces with lots of personality. Grandiose beds are a great way to add a dramatic piece to a bedroom because they double as a practical piece (for sleeping, obviously) and also as a piece of art. Hand-carved beds with stately frames will increase in popularity as contemporary and minimal style beds that sit low to the ground will decrease in popularity.

Trend #6: Passamenterie

What is “passamenterie,” you ask? Passamenterie is the art of creating those elaborate trimmings you often see on furniture, such as tassels, pompons, ornamental cords, fringe, and much more. In 2019, pieces featuring passamenterie details will be back on-trend and will certainly be found in homes with ornate or formal decorative styles.

Trend #7: Wood Finishes

In 2019, interior designers will be looking to create interiors that feel warm, inviting, and more natural. Overly-sleek, cool-gray homes will fall behind and designers will favor pieces made of natural materials, especially those with wood finishes. Because most natural wood features a warmer, brown hue, wood finishes are soaring in popularity. You’ll see granite countertops falling in popularity, while butcherblock countertops will be more popular than ever. This trend will also be evident in bedrooms and in living rooms, which are arguably the two rooms where comfort matters most.
