Brumbaugh’s Oregon Ranch Reveal: A Clean Slate for A Cattle Family.

What do you take from your old home to fill a brand new forever home of 7,000 square feet?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

JoHanna Symons said goodbye to pretty much everything in their previous home and welcomed in the Brumbaugh’s design team to do whatever they wanted with the interior and exterior furnishings of her new modern ranch-inspired Oregon home.

“Once we went to Texas and saw their showroom, and heard their ideas, we didn’t want to bring anything from our other house. We brought only four photos from our old house … and a gun safe … that was about it,” said JoHanna.

JoHanna implicitly trusted her designer, Jessica, with every detail of their brand-new home. So much so, she didn’t see any of the details until the big reveal day.

“The minute we stepped into Brumbaugh’s, we knew this was it. They showed us what they could do. We knew after talking to Jessica and Sally — these were the girls we wanted. We knew we were in good hands.”

Eyes On Texas — Eyes on the Prize

Now how did this Oregon farm and ranch family find Texas-based Brumbaugh’s? That’s a story in itself. For nearly two decades, the Symons had been saving up to build their forever home overlooking their beautiful farmland that flowed through the Madras, Oregon valley. They had never bought a new piece of furniture before in their 20+ years of marriage, instead relying on family members’ hand-me-downs so they could eventually fund that beautiful home that was etched in their vision. Knowing that one day the dream would become reality, JoHanna had been collecting design inspirations from magazines she loved over the years. And the brand inspirations she kept pinning and saving more than any others were none other than Brumbaugh’s. JoHanna was drawn to Brumbaugh’s unique design because it illustrated the exact style she wanted to emulate in her future home.

Rustic Western With a Touch of Modern Elegance

As the hardworking operators of The Symons Beef Company, JoHanna and her husband, Jeremy, appreciate the authenticity of Brumbaugh’s furnishings and the way they capture the essence of Western life. Self-described as “rustic western with a touch of modern elegance,” JoHanna had been unable to find her taste in Oregon, so she set her sights on Texas.

“We decided to take a trip to Texas one day, and I called Brumbaugh’s ahead of time and told them we were coming in and wanted to meet them. We went to a handful of different places while we were there… but once we got to Brumbaugh’s … We just knew that was the right place to be. And the rest is history. ”

Family’s At the Heart of the Design

Once it got closer to the end of the construction phase, the Brumbaughs received a call from the Symon’s family. The time had come. JoHanna informed Sally and Jessica that it was “time for them to do their magic.”

Brumbaugh’s Lead Designer Jessica Duncan was tasked with a project that most designers only dream of achieving — having complete creative control over an entire 7,000-square-foot home. Their house was her blank canvas.

With this in mind, Jessica set out to do what she does best — create beautiful, elegant and liveable spaces for the people who are going to actually eat, breathe, and dream there. With three teen children in mind and a busy cattle-working husband-wife team to boot, Duncan carefully wove in furnishings and decor that not only gracefully set the stage for the entire flow of the home, but she made sure the home would work hard for the family.

“My favorite part of this entire process was this family. They are humble and grateful. Seeing all of their kids’ reactions to their rooms was priceless. One of the girls was in tears when she saw her room, and their son kept saying it was the nicest thing he ever had, ” Duncan reflected with a big smile on her face.

It’s All in the Brand

When someone trusts you to design the place they will live in forever — you’re humbled. But you shoot for the moon. It’s in the thoughtful, unexpected details Jessica knew would make the family smile, perhaps even cry a little. Every time they rounded the corner of the next room, the family gave out a surprised shout of glee as they discovered a new delight. The most touching? Their family’s cattle brand monogrammed onto throw pillows, linens, and even towels. It was that surprising and familiar touch that confirmed to the Symons once again that they had found the perfect design team at Brumbaugh’s. They knew that Brumbaugh’s did in fact, know how to make a house, their home.

“There’s no way I could have done what they did. And so the fact that we were able to have them do absolutely every single room, that was perfect.”

Here’s a look at how it all came together:

Living Room

“Usually you don’t get comfort with beauty. Sometimes you have to kinda let one or the other go, but the furniture is not only beautiful, it’s incredibly comfortable.”

Bedrooms

“I still walk around the house every day and just can’t believe how everything came together so well.”

Den

“If you want to take your project to the next level, call in the experts, which are obviously Sally and Jessica because you’re not going to be disappointed.”

Dining Room

“Jessica said if we didn’t like something, we could swap it out or change it. We didn’t change a single thing.”

Outdoor Living Area

“We sit out on our back deck on our outdoor furniture that Brumbaugh’s brought in, we click on the fire pit, and literally pinch ourselves because we can’t believe it. It’s so soothing and … complete for sure.”
